The BCA Youth Retreat (BYR) program has been going strong.

The BCA’s Center for Buddhist Education (CBE) held the BYR & Friends Reunion Fall Mini Retreat from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1, 2024, at the Jodo Shinshu Center (JSC) in Berkeley, California.

The retreat was open to all high school and college students and drew 18 participants for a weekend of learning, fun and friendship.

It was an all-day event on Saturday, Nov. 30, with students registering the day before and attending the Sunday service at the Berkeley Buddhist Temple .

CBE Youth Coordinator Brian Koichi Mizushima said the mini reunion was designed to be essentially a one-day event “so more participants would be able to attend during their busy year-end of studying and exams. It was a wonderful gathering of old friends and new.”

He said the BYR program “has become a home to many youth members who don’t have enough members to form a youth program in their area. Being able to gather at the Jodo Shinshu Center with other youth members from around the BCA is something that many of the participants look forward to all year.”

CBE is willing to host these types of events at the local temple level.

“We just need temple assistance with meals and lodging, but we would love to bring the program to you,” Mizushima said.

If a temple is interested in hosting an event, contact Mizushima at bkmizushima@bcahq.org

If you wish to be notified of upcoming youth events, email Mizushima with the contact information.

“We appreciate all of your support and promotions of our BYR programs,” Mizushima said.
